I am 44 years of age, married with 4 kids, qualified in 1986 from the University of Madras, India. I started my basic surgical training in the UK and obtained the FRCS in 1993 from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
After a 4-month period as senior SHO in Orthopaedics at Taunton in Somerset I gained entry into higher specialist training on the Guy’s and St. Thomas’ rotation in March 1994. Year 1 in Maidstone, 2 in Medway, Year 3 in Greenwich, 4 in Dartford, 5 in Guy’s and St. Thomas’ and year 6 in Nottingham. I passed my FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedics in March 1998. During year 3 of my training while at Greenwich I completed a day release MSc course in Orthopaedics at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. The 1 year course culminated with final written exam, clinicals and VIVA. My thesis “Shoulder arthroplasty – A six year Experience” was awarded A+ grade. Between 1996-98 I completed a 2-year weekend masters degree in Medical Law at the Cardiff Law School studying various aspects of risk management and the legal aspects of medical practice.
I have had a broad-based training in all aspects of orthopaedic and trauma surgery and year 6 has been utilised for sub specialty training in shoulder and hand surgery. I have attended courses and meetings, carried out research and audit in all posts as SpR. I am well versed in information technology and computer use. I have a special interest in research, risk management and teaching. I consider myself an ideal candidate for the post of consultant in trauma and orthopaedics in view of my training and experience. I am fully aware of the responsibilities as consultant and well informed on current status of NHS including clinical governance, revalidation, PDF and funding. I have recently performed waiting list initiative surgery in the capacity of a locum orthopaedic consultant at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
Will also prepare reports for children.
